Tiles
Tiles are pieces of hard wearing material made from things such as ceramics, stone, metal, glass or wood that are used for covering roofs, floors, walls and tabletops. Tiles can also be made from very lightweight materials such as bakelite, perlite, and mineral wool for applications that have a low weight threshold such as ceilings and certain architectural applications. Modern technology has improved tiles greatly so they now offer far more insulation properties, are lighter, stronger, more weather resistant, however unfortunately they are not cheaper. Many people will now attempt to reclaim tiles from older structures that are being demolished or having their roofs replaced with more modern materials so it is becoming far more common to see houses adorned with older, weathered slate. There are a number of reasons for this, not least spiraling costs of houses and the closure of many quarries that force people into reclaiming old bits and pieces (including the humble tile) to use. Unfortunately this has meant that the price of reclaimed tiles has also increased so it is now vital to shop around to get a good deal for your tiles before purchasing.
